The Rlkeyes Rails Interactive Map displays the estimated locations of historic railroad depots across Virginia, with a focus on the former Richmond & Danville Railroad and its successor lines.
How to Use the Map
Click a pin to view depot information, including name, line, years of operation, and status (standing, demolished, or site unknown).
Follow links within each pin popup to read related research posts, view overlays, or access primary sources.
The map is designed as a living research tool — it will continue to expand as new depots are confirmed and additional data is uncovered.
Accuracy & Methodology
Depot coordinates are based on historical maps, city permits, and photographic evidence whenever possible.
For demolished or undocumented sites, coordinates reflect approximate locations, determined through overlaying historical maps with modern aerial imagery.
Each pin is color-coded to show reliability and status:
Green: Standing structure
Red: Approximate demolished site
Gray: Location uncertain (best guess) demolished site
